Numbers

Double 3, half the dates of my wedding anniversary, the remainder of which were 3x3 (equal 9). Come to think of it 3.3. was the beginning 7.7. the end, some 17 years later (not a funky number). In fact 17 is a rather vanilla number and uneven at that; so pretty reflective of what now seems a life time ago. In case you haven’t noticed, I have this thing with numbers…

Other than 33 it was a largely uneventful day in the age of COVID19 with a very early start – first call at 6am and busy from then on. But then I prefer busy to boring, so it was a good day. Which is more than one can say for the outside world which has been rather rainy, a true April day as the rain of the day has been followed by sunshine. The latter meant we could walk the Hood again. Streets were almost completely deserted, which is still strange, but does inspire a sense of safety.

We are working on dealing with the eggs from Easter. Today’s lunch featured a German classic from the state of Hessia “Green Sauce” which is basically made from seven different herbs (three of which I can get in the US, so had to substitute) with yoghurt and sour cream. It turned out nicely and is served with, yes, boiled eggs and potatoes. One of EM’s friends came by to drop of some of the brisket they prepared for Easter. We swapped them for homemade cinnamon buns and eggs. The brisket went surprisingly well with our green sauce. More eggs tomorrow, probably in a mustard sauce.

Of Course I continue to follow news from the world despite physical isolation. Bless the internet and connectivity of voice and data generally. I particularly like what the Capetonians are doing. Globally 1.9 million cases have been reported as confirmed today, with death tolls increasing to 113k.

There also was an interesting piece today comparing how two States who handled #Stayhome very differently fared, providing a life experiment on the effectiveness of social distancing measures. One of the charts is very telling.

What has been most disconcerting is a tweet by agent orange on firing Fauci. I am desperately hoping this is not a serious consideration as Dr Fauci seems like the only sane person in the Corona crisis management.

On the somewhat funny side are the unintended consequences of #stayhome. It seems the population of rats in urban centers is really struggling with rats going out to war over spoils.

And in the good news section today a report that Spain begins to ease lockdown to revive the economy.
