Today was a weird day.
My GP had forced me to come to his office to renew my prescription. When I arrived, thinking my appointment was at 8:00 when it was at 8:30, no one was there. I was pissed at the fact that he made me come in to start off with, but it is what it is, and he does have to make some money too. I was sent into a room the size of a cell to wait for his arrival. He drew blood, listened to my heart and breathing, asked silly questions about shortness of breath and send me of again. Here is where it becomes interesting.
Rather than heading home, I went to the office. I had secured special permission to go and pick up my passport. Of course, I used this opportunity to get all of my personal stuff, seeing the passport I went to pick up expired two days ago. It was the weirdest experience.
I was the only person on the entire floor. Everything was as I had left it 218 days ago. I started to clean out my desk and files. I had brought a small carry on which turned out to be to small to fit all my files. Nonetheless, I managed to schlepp all the binders home. Now I need to figure out where to accommodate them seeing I have no extra shelf space. For the time being they are residing on the bench in my office and I shall have to sort through them.
Today was a perfect late autumn day. Beautiful temperatures to be outside and I did have 45 minutes of lap lane when I got to use my new swim suit and my new goggles, which are amazing. Sadly, the friends I was planning to see tonight cancelled. However Ian and his lovely wife Eileen are back in DC and came by spur of the moment.
We had a great evening discussing politics around the firepit. The portable firepit is one of my best investments ever. I am so enjoying my new outdoor entertainment space! So, all in all an interesting and good day. Of course the virus shitshow continues with sadly not only the US seeing record numbers of new infections, but Europe too. The latter does not bode well for our plans to go home for Christmas.
Of the 38.8 million cases reported globally 8.2 million can be attributed to the USA. Sadly, the virus has now also reached the Biden campaign. Two of Harris’s staffers test positive, so Senator Harris is canceling in person campaign events. Likewise, one of the pilots of planes Biden charters has also tested positive. This amidst the US hitting its highest weekly average in new infections in 21 States. With almost 60k new cases reported today. At the same time science is grappling with who should receive a vaccine first we’re it to arrive.
Research now dictates the age group 30-59 is the most vulnerable as they are the most interactive, the most likely to contract the disease and the most likely to develop serious infections. It might be worthwhile considering also that this age group is the most economic active. If the economies of this world should restart, it is this age group who will make it happen.
I am in that age group, so maybe I can skip to the front of the vaccine line….
