Rained Out Supra

A Saturday very much to my liking, left home at 9:30 and did not get back until 15:00. First an hour and a half of Aikido class. Second EM and I headed to the Wheaton – Glenmont pool for a bit of diving and a swim. It began to rain at about 1:30, given we had left the top of the car down we packed up a little early and headed downtown to Supra on 11th Str in NW DC to pick up our dinner. On the way home we passed the office so I thought I would visit the ATM to pick up some cash as every once in a while I do need some and had to borrow from EM. Turns out that all of the ATMs of my lousy credit union are inside our office buildings and cannot be accessed from the outside. Hence all of them are closed! Briefly stopped at CVS to pick up prescription before returning home. It all felt so normal (apart form the masks and the sanitizer and the very eerie empty office building).

At home we unpacked the Supra spoils just to find that all of the extra orders, like the sour green plum sauce and the oven baked mushrooms were missing as were some of the condiments. It did turn into a decent meal none the less, especially as I switched out the tomatoes and cucumbers for homegrown varieties.

Once I had prepared the starters and the salad it was time to shower, change and set the table as we had invited people over for 17:30. Just as I was done setting up outside and people arrived (17:35 precisely) it started to rain. So all the cushions went under the covers again, all plates, glasses, napkins, and dishes migrated inside. Due to the timely rain we decided to have the aperitif inside – all windows open, all sitting 2 meters apart.

Given that our oven is still a wreck, EM had arranged to go over to a friends house to bake the Khachapuri. Just as she arrived back and we were ready with all food items, the rain stopped, so every thing moved back outside, save for the main course which we left on the stove. Of course as soon as we were mostly done with the starters the rain came again, so everyone grabbed their plates, glasses, cutlery and we migrated back inside, where we finished of the remainder of the food. Despite the back and forth it was a fun night and a complete distraction from Corona life, which today saw 64.000 new case in the USA, a new record, as 21.3 million infections were reported worldwide, those in the USA rose to 5.5 million.
