On the Water Again

Surprisingly we were given the day of work today. Given the short notice it was a little too late for any local travel. I spend the morning reading while EM attended a half day of virtual classes.

I did work on our strategy for a bit and prepared my script for the SME Finance Forum discussion which I am moderating in two weeks time; given we are planning a dry run on Wednesday early in the morning and Tuesday is very booked up already today was the only option to get my act together.

For lunch we did something rather out of the ordinary given our low carb diet; we made a Mediterranean pizza with sundried tomatoes, olives, artichokes, caramelized onions and smoked mozzarella cheese. It was delicious! There are of course left-overs, which will make for a fabulous breakfast. I was glad to have lap booked right after to work of all those nasty calories.

From the pool I headed straight to the marina, just stopping at Trader Joe’s to pick up items for tomorrow’s Braai with my Turkish-German friends. My friend Maureen arrived at the Marina at the same time as I did. It took us about twenty minutes to leave port as there was no wind. A storm was passing through just South of us, which had the wind pick up and we had a lot of fun zigzagging back and forth in the cove; with at times a little to much on an angle for my friend, who feared we might capsize, but not enough to prevent us from enjoying some wine and a spectacular sunset. Being on the water is always like a little vacation; just enjoyable, relaxing and clearing the mind. Tomorrow is another fun day with first Aikido practice followed by pool time and then the Braai.

For Sunday I have plans for another trip to Lake Arrowhead and for Labor Day I have now arranged to go paddle with Maureen. So a fun weekend of Staycation.

Of the 26.4 million reported cases worldwide, the USA accounts for 6.38 million. The USA has 40k new infections on average per day, while this is less than the 77k we saw post Memorial Day weekend, it is still double of the reported numbers during stricter lock downs or before summer started. Labor Day weekend is likely going to cause another significant increase. This paired with the onset of flu season and colder weather limiting outdoor options will likely make for another spike in the fall, but we are ready. We got our flu shots today (the first for me ever). Outdoor heaters are installed. Next week part of my lawn will be paved, and an awning installed. All this combined with a portable firepit enables me to have guests outside even during fall and possibly winter. We are all set!

Very useful accessory to enable long term face mask wearing.People are resourceful!
