After receiving a call late in the afternoon from one of the Managers in Africa my evening became rather hectic with work, so much so I completely forgot to write my daily blog!
EM asked me to color the eggs for Easter sometime around 20:00 before she headed of to the pool. I had meant to return and write blog after this activity, but then proceeded to bake our traditional birthday cake and while this was in the oven, I streamed a TV show on my Mac.
Only this morning when I opened the work laptop did I realize, I never finished writing, but had left a skeleton with just the news links. If memory serve right, there was nothing special about yesterday. Work, noon swim, work and then the boiling and dying of 12 eggs for the Easter egg hunt I am still organizing for my now adult child. I did get her for April fool though. In the morning I told her that sadly due to inclemental weather conditions Gravits had cancelled our booking for her birthday dinner.
Infections in the US continue to increase at 60+K every day, with Michigan the new hot spot. Even with the majority of people inoculated it is very likely that mask wearing should continue, primarily to protect oneself against new variants. Also, it is not clear how long the vaccine protects; so another reason to continue to exercise a measure of caution. At least there is progress on developing vaccines against known variants.
Moderna in partnership with the NIH is testing modifications of its vaccine which specifically address the South African strain. Any vaccine effective against the South African variant B 1.351 is of course of particular interest to me.
