Cousins

Christmas is over and we turn to the period “between the years” as we call them in German. Those are days when most people have time to take a breath, make calls and catch up with people more distant, as it is a time when people tend to be off work, but are unlikely to travel. It is a breather so to speak. I have used the morning to make a few calls to friends.

Most of them I will not see this year courtesy of Corona. Some I may meet for a socially distanced walk. I have made arrangements for a walk on Tuesday and a walk on Wednesday.

Tonight, we shall head to my cousin’s house for our annual BBQ; outside, masked and socially distanced of course. Given it is barely above 0C and still rather windy, it is unlikely to be a long affair. Nonetheless, will be nice though also for EM and my nephew to connect with their cousins. We are trying to get our kids together as often as possible. Our families are small and there are few other relatives.

Other than that, we continue to huddle at home, playing board games and reading. I am rather frustrated as the internet connection lousy when four devices are connected. Currently my iPad is refusing to pair with the WiFi and as a result I can no longer read the news. I battled hard to be able to do so as my mum, my sister and my nephew all decided they needed to chatter where I was sitting trying to read. The stupid airpods did not want to connect to the phone and I was getting visibly irate as it was not possible to focus on anything. My brother in law had mercy and offered me the spot in the library. AS a result, I did get a little reading time in, until said iPad decided it no longer wanted to connect to the WiFi for reasons unknown of course.

As the virus continues to spread, it becomes clear that the administration could no care less about the American people. The Moron in chief is refusing to sign the omnibus bill which includes governmetn funding and Corona relief for Americans. As a result millions of Americans are without income as unemployment benefits expire December 26th, 2020. A special Christmas gift from the president. As of January 1 millions of Americans will be homeless; a special New Years present form the president. As of December 28th the Federal budget will expire and thousands of Federal employees will be furloughed, another gift from the president.

Meanwhile he, as Nashville explodes, and people go hungry, face homelessness and unemployment, plays golf at his luxury resort in Florida, complaining about the lack of support by the GoP for his election steal. He is a vengeful person and as such he will neither sign nor veto the bill. Simply by doing nothing the bill would become law after ten days. If he vetoed it, congress could pass it with a two third majority anyway. However, because congress will terminate on January 3rd and the new congress will not come into session until January 20th, the bill will simply expire and the new congress and the new senate will have to draft and pass a new spending bill. This ensures the current administration leaves as much destruction as possible for the incoming administration to have to deal with and providing as little cooperation and information to Biden’s team as possible in an attempt to set the incoming administration up for failure. Funding for vaccine distribution runs out February 1st, 2020. There is still no resolution on the hack of the US government.

It is just a major mess Biden needs to clean up. One thing everyone can be assured of, the hipocrates of teh GoP will start blamign teh incoming administration for this incompetence on day 1 and of course the majority of the American people will be to ignorant to see throught the plot. Sad, just sad.
