We had a mostly chill Sunday at home today. Starting with the usual coffee and news forage (not much new).
Just before noon we headed to the local pool. No West Virginia Blue Mountain Mama adventure today, and probably not next weekend either since EM is spending Friday night at her BF’s and the Saturday in Ocean City. Presumably this means Sunday will be a homework day. Not sure if it will be warm enough for open water swimming the follwoing weekend. It would be nice if it were.
The sun was out and it was warm and dry. EM has been complaining about humidity in the house so my garage is open most of the afternoon to air out the basement, where her swimbag has apparently been molding.
The pool water had just the perfect temperature for laps and I did 55 minutes before indulging in some dives with EM. Back at home I spend the better part of two hours helping her with research on studying in Europe; hoping she and her group can finish their website sooner rather than later. I do want to share it with my brilliant friend to see what e makes of their work. Personally I think it is a great resource, but then I am probably biast.
Also a former colleague is coming by for a glass of wine and pizza later, which has had me chop veggies for same. The dough though is a real struggle, it just refuses to be rolled! I have decided to task EM with this as she is the baker in the house. Once the pizza is in the oven, we are all set for a chill evening in the garden. And so life goes on, ever mindful of maintaining social distance but not stopping living.
The world today reports 28.8 million infected people. The numbers in the USA are going up again. Daily new infections were sort of stable at bout 40k per day, but are now trending upwards again, mainly driven by colleges reopening and students partying. The USA today reports 6.7 million infections since early March and we can expect a new increase in about ten days as the fall outs from labor day weekend and agent orange’s rallies begin to show in the statistics; to the extend numbers are actually reported! With all the Trump loyalists now sitting in key positions, this is increasingly doubtful. The same applies to the elections where the administration is doing its utmost to undermine confidence in the system. A shitshow waiting to happen! And while all hopes, certainly in the USA, for normalcy rely on a vaccine becoming available, this may well be only 50% effective. Which means 50% of those vaccinated may not get COVID at all, while the remaining 50% may still get it, however, cases may be less severe.
Not sure if this is good or bad news.
