What a busy day.
Coffee and news in the morning before heading to the park for practice from 10:00 – 11:45. From there I went directly to the back-up pool to arrive 15 minutes before my allotted time and find two lanes empty. As a result I got 45 minutes to swim instead of 30. How lucky is that? After a quick shower at home I left to Alexandria to meet C for what may well have been the last sail of the season; though the marina says they may open next week and the week after if the weather stays nice.
Well after 1:45 hours on the water I was a popsicle, despite windbreaker and sweater, so it will need to be unusually warm for me to be convinced to go back out. Back at home I changed into my annual witch outfit to celebrate Halloween. Since it is entirely outside, I made a big pot of Russian soup (Borscht).
The girls had been sitting in the driveway since 13:00 carving pumpkins and so on. There was a bit of drama with one of them and a migraine. And while EM rushed of to get some meds, A. proceeded to set up the firepit she had brought (same as ours). The girls plus later on EM’s BF proceeded to toss candy at the passing children using Lacrosse sticks.
I had two of my friends come over and after a glass of red wine in the back garden we set of for a walk around the neighborhood to look at the Halloween decorations and the innovative ways sweets were distributed. Many people simply had a table with sweets in front of their houses. Others ggot really creative: We saw a zip line, a race track with a remote controlled car delivering sweets, several candy shoots, at the last of which we stopped as I had been in touch with those people via email so paused to introduce myself and put a face to the name. Very nice people seeing they had treats for the adults in the form of red wine and invited the three of us in for a glass. I even scored some meat balls. It was a lot of fun and I asked them to come over for a glass of wine one of these nights. I am sure they will. We thoroughly enjoyed all the displays and people on the Listserv have been full of gratitude towards all of the neighbors, thanking people for their creativity and generosity, with everyone saying tis has been the best Halloween ever and how much more fun than just ringing door bells. Maybe this is the beginning of a new tradition.
Given the administration, especially the Covidiot in chief, has now completely disconnected from reality, simply denying the existance of CVOD-19, socially distanced life maybe here to stay as the only means for us to protect ourselves, given the administrations inability to do so. Accordingly the closing message of the Covidiot on his re-election campaign is to ignore Covid how fitting given another day another record high in America. 99.321 new infections reported in just a single day.
What if the bulk of these were Republican voters in swing states who had plane don in person voting on Nov 3rd. Given they have to now isolate, how many votes may the GOP be short? Last week the USA was at 500.000 reported infections, over the past three days roughly 250.000 have been added. Enough to change the narrow margins by which the Moron won all of the swing states. So, who knows, may be the GOP approach of do nothing to stop the spread may come to roost.
Finally, so much needed encouragement. Atlantico takes a look back at the past 8 months and the progress made in fighting the virus, pointing out that without all of the measures we have taken the death toll would be far higher without all of us staying home and wearing masks.
