We had planned on having a BBQ with our Turkish – German friends. Well because of hurricane Delta that did not happen. As per weather forecast it was supposed to start raining in the afternoon, and it did at 14:00, the exact time of the invitation. Also, my lap lane fell through, so no swim today. Instead EM and I headed to Best Buy.
Seeing we got lost on the way there, I managed to pop into Dick’s and pick up two new swimsuits as well as a pair of goggles. Clearly COVID is affecting us. Who else would get dressed up, put on make up and don jewelry for a trip to Best Buy? Well, I did. Not going anywhere these days I have little reason to dress up and the trip to the grocery store does not count, while a trip to a mall does. EM’s phone has been glitching for a few weeks now and given it is about six year sold it was time to replace it, a premature Christmas gift so to say. She is now the proud owner of a red i-phone SE with 128 GB storage!
Back home I proceeded to make a nice beef broth, cooking the bones and vegetables for hours. This should make for a couple of nice stews.
Other than that not much happened today. I started reading the book for book club, “Fever”, at 18:00 and was done by 21:25. A great read! And now it is time for bed.
I did find an interesting piece about working from home and how to cope with it. this is based on pre Corona experiences, but addresses the challenges many people face today. The need for structure and a different measure of output.
As infections continue to rise (7.99 million in the US today and 37.3 million globally, a libertarian think tank has commissioned three professors to issue a thesis on managing Corona virus. Without any scientific evidence to prove this could even work, never mind suggestions how to make it work, the threesome proposes returning to a fully normal life, protecting the vulnerable only. So basically move to herd immunity. It is unclear who the vulnerable are, old people? Obese people? People with pre-existing conditions? Which pre-existing conditions? Scientific models actually suggest that to achieve herd immunity, by just letting everyone get infected would take years and for the USA alone include millions of dead (estimates vary from 2-4). And is that how long we lock up the “vulnerable”? Also supposed scientific support is dodgy at best as anyone can sign up in support of the thesis and give themselves any degree they like.
What the heck?
