Saturday, November 14th, 2020
It turns out that my brilliant friends had changed his plans to be out of town and in an area without cell phone reception Thursday and Friday instead of Saturday and Sunday, to be able to spend time with me today and tomorrow. Sadly, I had not been told about this, if he had, I would not have been so upset and hurt. I was so furious I left my phone home today when I headed for practice in the park. Of course, while I was gone there was a flurry of apologetic text messages explaining the situation. Given I did not respond, he headed for a hike. I did message once I got home and checked the phone; even called, but alas reception was so bad I could not be heard. I texted to call, so far nothing. I am back in the limbo space of uncertainty with no idea whether we shall meet after the hike or not. It is a bit frustrating, but at least I am no longer mad.
I did bake that Christmas cake last night so and am distracting myself currently with making a slow roast lamb. Today is a gorgeous autumn day.
The sun is shining and practice in the park was absolutely beautiful. I practiced with Sensei and had another revelation. Seems one of my assets is that I am not afraid to hit! Now I will take advantage of the late afternoon sun and rake some leaves – my lawn is brown because of the foliage it is covered with.
Across Europe and the USA the Virus is on the rise. Germany added 20k new case in a day, while the US added 181k new cases yesterday. Each day reported cases are higher than those reported the previous day. It is very frustrating and travel restrictions have been put in place. I do hope as a German national I shall be allowed into Europe, but it is all very uncertain.
There were a few countries in the Pacific which had zero cases of COVID until a week ago. Now even the most remote island state has infected people. All courtesy of the US as travelers from the USA have brought the virus with them.
Restaurants, gyms and hotels carry the highest risk of getting an infection, all the more reason to stay well clear of any of these venues. If not for reading Corona related news I would never have know there even was such a thing as a swinger convention. Well, apparently they plan to meet in New Orleans in person despite the virus. I am pretty sure conventions are also designed to increase the spread.
GOP lawmakers want to curb the powers of governors. This will impact their ability to fight the virus. And of course, it is directly designed to curb Democratic governors as in most of these States the GOP has through decades of gerrymandering ensured it controls state legislatures, despite being the minority party in se states. this is a demonstration of the hypocrisy of the Republican Party, as the “Originalists” they have put into the Supreme Court believe in more State and less Federal power.
I doubt you can have it both ways, but then again this country is governed by hypocrisy.
