Today’s news is obviously consumed by the presidential election leaving little room for anything else.
After practice last night I dropped in at my friend D’s house and we spend an hour and the better part of a bottle of red wine following early election results. It was not pretty. I stayed up monitoring results until 01:00 in the morning and finally succumbed with a sense of deflation. Clearly there was no Blue wave or Biden landslide.
The election even 24 hours later is too close to call. I am flabbergast, dismayed, outraged, in disbelieve. After all that has happened over the past four years, how can this race even be close? How is it even conceivable that some 50% of Americans support Trump? And this is not only manifested in the presidential election. The GoP has increased the number of seats it holds in Congress, has most of its enabling Senators reelected and is set to reelect Trump. What is wrong with this country and these people?
Certainly they do not share any of the values I was raised with and hold dear. Never have I felt so disenfranchised, so foreign in a place I live. All I have left to say is: you deserve the government you elect. You deserve all that is coming to you.
Yes, I feel for all my friends who clearly live on a different planted, even if they occupy a residency in the USA. For them I feel, my heart goes out, the rest: suffer. There is no cure for stupidity, and stupid is what a vast number of Americans are, as evidenced by EM’s BF who just regurgitates whatever shit the orange Cheeto spouts. Whatever happened to critical thinking? Checking the facts? It is absolutely fine to be conservative. It is not okay to be racist, degrading of others, corrupt or simply evil.
I am in a very vindictive mood tonight. Let all those rednecks loose their health care. Let them sink into poverty over medical bills, let them die of poisoned water; just do not cry for any state or government to help you, because that is what you voted against. Even if, and that is a big IF, Biden manages to secure the presidency, he will be a lame duck as Mitch the scum bag and all of the GOP Senators will do their utmost to keep him from getting anything done.
Maybe a Trump win would serve this country better. At least it would break the system once and for all providing an opportunity to rebuild. Maybe the US has to go where Germany went in the 1940s to learn. It is sad beyond believe. I am so grateful I am not American. I am thankful I can return to a civilized nation.
And while ballots are counted, legal battles about the election waged, the USA has reported 100.000+ new Corona infections in a singel day today, bringing the USA tally to 9.79 million, while the world reports a total of 48 million cases. More than 50k people are in hospitals. And no matter who wins the election, the current administration shall remain in charge until January 20th, 2021. Given the Moron in chief is about to fire the single most knowledgeable infectious disease expert and will do nothing to manage the pandemic things are looking rather gloom right now.
There is confusion in scientific circles on how COVID-19 immunity works. A recent study shows there are people who not only recover quickly, but also sustain antibody production. It is unclear though why this is the case. So much to learn still. My front runner on the vaccine side of things has always been Oxford/ AstraZeneca and it looks like they may be able to produce results of their late stage phase 3 trial before the end of the year. What a relief that would be.
