Hair Cut

Today turned out to be very hot day with the temperature hitting 32C, so no lunch time walk. Instead I walk to the dentist office which is conveniently located about a kilometer from home near the Valley Springs shopping center; though shopping center makes it sound much bigger than what it is: A delicatessen, a CVS, a take out place and a coffee shop next to Crate & Barrel is all there is.

I was pleasantly surprised, not only is it a very small practice of a husband and wife team, but staff were super friendly and very well organized. The COVID precautions need some taking used to though. First, they have one gargle with hydrogen peroxide, which I only know as a bleach, for a full minute. The taste is rather unpleasant. Second, no more spitting. Instead they put the little suction thingy into ones’ mouth to get the liquid out. Dr P. was super nice and made an interest to get to know his patient rather than just the tooth, but more importantly he is keen to save whatever can be saved. For starters I was given a medical filling to sooth the near exposed nerve. Next week I ma then up for a two-our session which includes taking prints for a new on- or inlay and then a third session in early July to fit it. Clearly this is a longer term project.

I also braved the world and sought out the hairdresser Hanh Nam had recommended. I paid USD 25 for a cut, no wash, no nothing, just a cut. This took about 20 minutes in all. It is a little on the short side, but nicely done.

All I want now is a body of water to swim on. So jealous of mum who gets to swim every day.

The Virus continues to spread. Today’s count is 7.18 million globally and the USA has passed the 2 million mark with deaths nearing 115k rapidly. Virus news continues to be more or less the same; rising infections, economies reopening despite this, concerns of new spikes, and so on.

Otherwise the US media were dominated by George Floyd’s burial. I am not sure how I feel about that, mainly because there are hundreds of “Floyds” out there of whom no one speaks; like the Jamaican kid who was shot in New Jersey in the same week Floyd died. He had been stopped for a speeding violation and when his car would not restart a tow truck was called while the officer made him wait in the patrol car. No citation or warrant or anything was issued, so after 30 minutes he asked to leave (twice). When a little while later he wanted to leave the vehicle, the officer shot him there and then. Is that not murder?
