Following last night’s excesses, I had a slow start to the day with a nap after my first coffee and the second coffee a to go on my way to practice. Back from practice another nap before heading to the pool for a swim just in time to make it for the Senior Graduation Committee call.
It was a very inspiring call and I think we came up with a great idea. We are going to plan a drive-in graduation! Last year they did a car parade to honor the graduates, driving by the school; we are now planning to have that end at a parking lot large enough to accommodate 550 cars. Based on my math if not a parking lot we would need a field that is about 120 by 70 feet, which is actually not all that large. While the other mum’s (no dad’s volunteered for any of the senior celebration committees; why is that I wonder?) are looking into potential lots we could use, I have volunteered to think through the logistics and what we need. If there is no graduation organized by the school administration, think this could be a very festive graduation. No chairs needed, no rain date needed and as many guests as can fit into the car can attend. Since it will be livestreamed even relatives around the globe can participate. I think this is exciting, maybe even better than the normal generation. I am hoping that this will actually. But we will not know for a long time as MCPS will presumably make the decision at the last possible moment depending on county metrics. Something in me wants to do the drive-in graduation anyway.
The day will likely end with an early night tonight.
Total US infections today stand at 27.5 million with a reported increase of 102k new cases, despite the new mutants circling in the USA. People must be doing something right. Given that the new mutations spread faster, one can only hope people remain cautious until the vaccination is mostly done.
Scientist may be able to explain how the virus mutations come about. Few, mostly autoimmuno compromised people, stay infected for months. When being treated they partially recover, but never fully, so the virus is almost gone, but some remains in the body where it grows again and adapts to the treatment as it resurfaces.
If this happens to often there is a chance the virus may be able to go undetected in the body. Now that would be a catastrophic evolution.
Only choice: protect and ideally vaccinate all autoimmune compromised people, making them first priority.
