Excitment in the Air

Blue skies and beautiful sunshine had me regret having booked a lane from 13:00 - 14:00 as I did not get a chance to lizard in the glorious sunshine. The morning was still chilly and windy, but now that the wind has died down it is gorgeous outside. So much so, that I have succumbed and planted my Geraniums in the window boxes.

The herbs shall follow in the coming days as the weather forecast is up to 28C for the rest of the week, albeit cloudy. I also have the seed bomb mum gave me for Christmas. I think I will throw those into the garden in early May and be surprised to see what comes out of them. If it gets warm early enough, I shall relocate my office to the outside for the first time this season.

I will have plenty of time to assess the temperature evolution as I have yet again a 5:00 start into my day and the alarm has been set for 4:15 to ensure I am presentable. Given the early night yesterday did not happen as I watched a movie until late, it will happen today for sure. I have plans to head to bed after the call with the ladies from the PROM alternative.

EM has her dress as do many of the other girls and exploits are shared on the Senior girls FB group. The boys are also in action, apparently there was a long line at the various local tuxedo rentals. Interesting that the girls buy and the boys rent. Here is the announcement that went out today to recruit parent helpers to chaperon the event:

The Class of 2021 Parents Alternative Events Committee has organized an amazing evening for B-CC Seniors, where they can get dressed up (if they want), come to the National Mall (between 9th and 12th Streets NW) on May 7th, 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm, to dance, take pictures, and commemorate their senior year in style. There will be two massive tents, a DJ, two professional photographers, and a surprise gift for each senior. Covid-conscious protocols, including masks and social distancing, will be in place. Students have already started registering and there is excitement in the air. All we need now is YOU - parent volunteers - to help make the evening happen. Compared to years past, this will be the easiest gig ever. We're not asking you to be stuck inside, with the clanking and ringing of games at Dave & Busters, for a 2 am - 5 am shift. Instead, you get to be on the beautiful National Mall, at sundown, watching our seniors dressed up, enjoying an evening out with their classmates. We hope you can help us make this happen. Sign up, grab a friend to sign up too, and we'll see you on the Mall.

I am rather excited myself and plan to be there during set up. I have forgotten entirely that I volunteered to tie ribbons to the 300 yellow roses we have ordered to give to each senior. I do hope there will be enough! The kids are so starved for a celebration that there is a chance every senior attends. Maybe we should discuss a back up plan to purchase more roses if needed.

There is no news on the other celebrations such as the car parade. It was so much fun last year that I am very much hoping it will happen. Likewise, I hope the administration will permit the IB graduate celebration. I have not heard back from the IB coordinator on EM’s history IA score, but the teacher has written to her to explain the grade. He seems to think her graduation will not be in jeopardy, which is a big relief.

With all of this going on I almost forget we live amidst a pandemic! Still virus cases are on the rise, albeit slower, with the USA reporting 41k over the past twenty-four hours to bring the total to 32.86 million. 1 billion shots have been administered globally so far of which 0.2% have been administered in low income countries.

This poses a danger to all of us as pockets of infections can produce new variants.
