Just like yesterday a beautiful sun filled day, only a little cooler perfect to be out and about.
Headed to the market around 10am, which clearly is the peak time judging by the line to get in. However, it moves fast and I value the crowd control efforts.
Like a few weeks ago we met one of EM’s friends and her mum for our round of grocery shopping and spend some time at the picnic tables in the playground with our exploits.
The afternoon was booked for a sail, alas no boats were available. Lesson learned: book in advance and cancel if somehow it does not fit into the schedule of the day. Instead EM and her friend are hanging on the front lawn chatting, while I planted some more herbs, made a Ramps pesto, cooked some rhubarb-strawberry compote and then proceeded to prepare a Rockfish to grill for dinner.
I also had three attempts at making Halawa. Every time turned rock hard instead of the gooey mass it is supposed to be. I know the sugar-water-lemon mix must be heated up slowly, but clearly I was doing something wrong. It has never been this bad. I have given up on it for this week and will try again next Saturday.
The virus news has not changes the trend is up with 6.1 million reported cases globally. Maryland’s COVID-19 positivity rate has dropped to 10.9%, and current total hospitalizations have fallen to their lowest level since April 15. Maryland has now conducted 348,773 COVID-19 tests, including 9,412 tests over the last 24 hours. The state’s positivity rate peaked on April 17, when it reached 26.91%. Since then, it has dropped by 59.49%, down to 10.9% statewide. Maryland’s current total COVID-19 hospitalizations—one of the state’s key recovery metrics—have dropped to 1,183, their lowest level since April 15. There are 479 ICU beds currently in use for COVID-19 patients, the lowest number since April 17, and the number of patients in acute care, 704, is at its lowest since April 14. So there is hope.
Sadly, the virus’ spread across the USA will result in 54 million Americans possibly going hungry. That is close to 20% of the population in the richest country in the world. It does attest to the inequality in this country if nothing else.
Under the category strange reports. I read about a ship somewhere in the middle of the Pacific with nowhere to go. The crew has been stranded on a boat for weeks and no country allows them to enter. Surely as quarantined as can be after weeks and weeks at sea?
Overall though Corona news in the USA has been displaced by protests against the unfair treatment of people of color following a number of death, the latest yet again at the hand of police officers. The racial divided is a huge problem in this country and current events have me read up on it. More in the coming days.
