New Computer

It seems I am eligible for a new laptop.

The message I received had me believe the exchange would happen in Q1. Just imagine how surprised I was when it arrived on my doorstep on Friday! I spend most of the day setting up the machine and getting acquainted with it.

First, I had to clean up all the files on the old machine, then check that everything in the cloud has migrated to the new machine. I am still not sure it has, so I shall hang onto the old piece for a little while longer. However, cleaning up my data, running back ups of files onto external hard drives and so on proved to be a rather satisfying exercise. I do miss my left/ right mouse tabs on the key board and am struggling a bit with the touch pad. Seems two fingers is akin to a left mouse click and one to a right; rather like my Mac. What does drive me crazy is that these need to be either at the top or the bottom of the touch pad rather than anywhere. And of course, I had to customize all of my “ribbons” in excel, word and powerpoint again. Mostly I think I have now sorted everything. While the touch pad will take some getting used to I love the feature of the lighted key board and the camera slide build into the machine, I am just not sure yet which setting means the camera is shut of and which means it is turned on. All in all a nice upgrade though.

Today was a clear sunny day with high winds. Nice to see the world from inside of our cocoon. We did have a family swim lane booked in the outdoor pool. Braving the weather we arrived early and where allowed to hop inot hte pool early too. Turns out the heating was not working and with the wind the water was ppositively freezing. After tweny minutes we gave up and ran home for a hot shower, a warm fire and cranked up the heating also.

The weather is rather erratic and temperatures are supposed to go up again to 20C mid-week. We had so much fun with our neighbors on Halloween, I have a mind to invite them over for Thursday night as I already have plans for Wednesday and tomorrow is election night as well as practice in the park. I will not get home until 21:00.

Results will not be out then anyway. I have asked my friend D to come over for some election watching together with her daughter and EM’s best friend A. We shall see how the night transpires, but I do not think final results will be available until at least a week after the election. What worries me most is that the moron in chief is set to win. I cannot understand how anyone could even consider voting for him, but here we are.

EM is having a discussion with the BF about his support for Trump. It is a bit of a surrogate discussion as I have given her a couple of talking points. Will be interesting to see how that goes. EM at least is pro LBGQT and pro choice. I must have done something right.

The day before the general election numbers COVID infection numbers continue to be on the rise. The world today has 46.6 million reported cases of which 9.5 million are in the USA, which reported 74k new infections yesterday. The response of the moron in chief is to muling over firing Dr. Fauci, the only sane and knowledgeable infectious disease expert the administration has.

Cases are spiking in Europe and governments are taking measures to curb the spread reentering partial lockdowns, just to be mocked by the Covidiot in chief, who is doing nothing to contain the spread.

Both in Europe and the USA equipment is no longer plaguing hospitals as they are dealing with increasing numbers of COVID-19 patients. Now it is staff. There not enough doctors and nurses to take care of the sick.

With all we know about how the virus spreads and how Americans behave, you do not need to be a rocket scientist to see Thanksgiving as the cause of the next spike in the wave. In fact that is what I wrote here yesterday, expect a merry Christmas as people who infected themselves over Thanksgiving will start dieing just round about them.

Hoping and praying for change.
