Today was the last day of our beach get away. It was so much fun! The girls stayed with the adults on the beach from 10:00 until about 14:00 when even I had to admit that it was not pleasant anymore; not so much because of the sun and the beach, but because one of the truck family who decided to basically drive on top of us and crowd our space. This might have been somewhat okay, had not some other loud mouthed family decided to do the same on the other side of our little encampment.
There are miles of beach, what is it with humans that induces them to stack on top of one another, especially in the age of COVID-19?
Other than that the day followed the nice routine we had established in previous days. You might be able to tell I am a creature of habit. A little bit of lizzarding in the sun, a walk, some play in the surf and drying of in the sun before more body surfing.
While yesterday we had a lot of baby jelly fish floating around, with a stronger surf today the big guys were rolling in with the tide after noon, which I did not realize until I took a dive into an oncoming wave just to have one of the larger jellyfish kiss me smack in the middle of the face. It was mostly slimy, but also a little stingy so I caught a wave to the beach and scrubbed my face with sand before heading back into the surf. However, no more diving into on coming waves, just body surfing and walking back, while keeping an eye out for those 30cm jellies. I can do this for hours! Just the risk of getting fried has me head back into the shade cast by our umbrella, which given the crowds was not so enjoyable, because of said families crowding our space. While my face feels a little burned after hours in the surf, I have developed a nice tan everywhere else, safe for the belly, without any sunburn!
Rather than cooking we, actually Danielle, treat ourselves to a late lunch at the local fish restaurant. Seeing we were all famished we of course over ordered and were stuffed when we rolled out of the place. The girls drove back to the house afterwards to pickup prosecco and orange juice, for Mimosas on the beach, as well as some nibbles, which after our sumptuous meal no one wanted. We all met up at Herring Point beach for sundowners. It was quite spectacular to see a cold front move in. The wind picked up and it got dark. We had a ton of fun taking crazy pics and left just as the first raindrops started to fall.
It feels a little like the end of summer, which is but a week away. As it is to be miserable weather tomorrow, we will just pack up and head home in the morning. This is just as well given school is starting on Monday, albeit 100% virtually, despite confusing messages from Governor Hogan yesterday that all school districts are now able to reopen if they choose to do so.
While I would really wish all students the experience of in class tuition, I am glad that MCPS came out immediately clarifying that school will remain virtual until January 29th, 2021. However, maybe some school sports will happen, which would be nice. Imagine all the work that has been put into virtual school being obsolete, only to have to shut schools down somewhere into week three or four due to cluster infections. What a mess that would have been. I would much rather have reliable classes, especially for our seniors who will be taking exams in May competing with students from all over the globe.
Known infections today are at 24.6 million while the USA has broken the 6 million mark. Yesterday alone saw 45,561 new reported infections and 1,234 new death. This as the moron in chief and his supremacist cronies celebrate their success at the final day of the RNC. What a shitshow this is!
