Monday

Somehow today was a typical Monday, starting with the alarm not going of so instead of getting up at 6:30 to have a coffe and scan the news I scrambled at 7:40 to get all organized for the 8:00 business process continuity call, where rather unexpectedly I was even asked to provide an update on some of the work I am doing, in this case about the content of the handbook I have been working on for what seems forever, but which is now in the home stretch as I review the chapters I receive from the editor and designer. I hope we will be able to launch/ publish next month.

The first part of the day I again braved it and worked from my garden, but by 11:00 it became to hot to focus. Temperatures today went up to 37C, even not moving, just driving in a car with the roof and all the wndows open causes one to break out in a sweat. Much as I like hot, it is a little too much. The heat has inspired me to look for lakeside rentals for the end of the month, a final treat so to say before school starts again (virtually of course). Just as I was unable to make up my mind I received a note on our famous Listserv - waterfront house available; exactly the dates I was looking for. It is on a canal near the beach. There is a pool one can use and both SUPs and kayaks are at the property and can be used. I immediately responded that I will have it. I feel very lucky. Seems the owners also order one of the yard signs I had organized for the neighborhood. Now I just need to organize payment.

The Virus continues to grow, unlike the world economy. Globally there are not 16.3 million reported cases and the USA has added another 58k to reach 4.36 million in total. At least death rates are down form a daily average of 1.000 last week to a little over 500 this week. Tehre are increasing reports of new infections steming form super spread events: a family BBQ with 28 in attendance here, a wedding with 80 guests there, a funeral with some 50 people and so on.138 days into the world living with Corona has there not been enough discussion on how the virus spreads? Surely people should by now know to avoid any gathering.

A new aspect of research on combatting the virus suggests genetic manipulation could be successful. I find this rather fascinating.

In light of schools reopening virtually we are also considering forming education pods. Not so much with a via to recruiting private teachers, but more to enable some joined lerarning. Of course for our high school student swho all have different schedules and courses this maybe difficult to arrange.
